Talent Abounds in the
Twin Towns
Last Friday evening
Murrumburrah Public School hosted a night featuring many talented local
artists. The concept of an art show and wine tasting was designed
to highlight the artistic talents of the students of Murrumburrah Public
School. The P&C wished to have a night of entertainment where parents
had a chance to view student work in a pleasant social atmosphere.
The Art Show is part of
the school and P&C’s fund raising initiatives specifically to upgrade
our school hall. Over the last few years we have upgraded the sound
system, installed blinds, refurbished school honour boards and commenced
painting. We have yet to remodel the front and back walls and
subsequently repaint. Over the last 3 years we will have needed to
raise and spend over $10,000.00.
A comment was made that
the student’s art reflected a number of different styles, perhaps
reflecting the different creative approaches of the staff. The staff at
Murrumburrah Public School are to be congratulated for their dedication
to ensuring this was a quality event.
Murrumburrah Public
School is also very fortunate to have the skill and creative expertise
of Ms Amanda Levett. Amanda assisted many of the classes with
their major pieces giving of her time and expertise to ensure the
creation high quality art works. Every student displayed a framed work
of art.
The evening commenced
with Mrs Paula Goh and students from Murrumburrah High School music
classes. They played a variety of music styles as parents viewed the
artistic talents of the students.
Amanda also designed,
created and donated the lucky door prize. This was using photo imagery
and painting to create a piece titled “Minimbah” which is a Wiradjuri
word meaning home of teachers and learning. The school really
appreciated this magnificent gesture.
Mr Keith Smith displayed
his amazing grasp of poetry, constructing a special art show piece,
proceeding to orate a poem written by his grandfather to his sister.
This was historic, local and about rural issues, this was greatly
appreciated by the crowd.
Murrumburrah High
school’s Hospitality group served the food and took care of the
domestics brilliantly. Rob and Kerrie Proven showcased their Shepard’s
Moon range of wines, a Semillon, Chardonnay, shiraz and a Cabernet
Shiraz. The wine tasting proved very popular resulting in another local
product given a broader audience. Rob’s humorous risqué rendition of an
old poem was just the tonic to conclude the evening.
Mr Scott Collins from
Collins Town & Country Real Estate Harden employed his powers of
persuasion as an auctioneer to encourage the assembled audience to part
with some “hard earned“ cash, to take home some wonderful pieces of
art. With Scott’s humorous and friendly encouragement parents got right
behind the auction theme.
The P&C as always
contributed with the design organisation implementation of the venture
which will surely lead to further development of our school hall
project. |
