Technology

Each room in the school is equipped with computers, which are used in conjunction with classroom programs.  The computers are all PC’s.  Murrumburrah Public School is gradually expanding the range of software to support the hardware.  Computers broaden our students opportunities to become familiar with technology.

The Internet is readily available and incorporated into theme and research activities.  The entire school is connected to a whole school network allowing students to access files from any computer in the school.

A computer room is also set up where whole class lessons are conducted by each class each week.  All internet use by staff and students is protected by the Department’s safety firewall.

All classes have access to PC computers in their classrooms as well as a lab of 26 Computers.  Staff computers are linked to the internet, laser printers or the photocopier.

Yoga

The students at Murrumburrah Public School are very fortunate to have the services of our resident Yoga Teacher Mrs. Gabi Hart. A parent at our school, Mrs. Hart gives up her time each week to bring the calming and stimulating effects of Yoga to all students from Kinder to Year 6.  What a fantastic opportunity this is for the students.

AUSTRALASIAN  SCHOOLS COMPETITIONS

External testing is part of our School Gifted and Talented Program.  It provides students with the opportunity to extend their thinking and powers of logic, employing their knowledge gained at school.

Structured testing also gives students the opportunity to experience exam conditions, which are important for high school and further education.  These tests are a valuable learning experience.

Educational Assessment Australia is a not-for-profit organisation of the University of NSW, and has been conducting the Australasian Schools Competitions for 20 years.  For those students wishing to participate the school runs tests in the following areas:

Writing, Science, Computers, Spelling, Mathematics, and English.

Youth Leadership Program

Our school captains, SRC and house captains participate in the Young Leaders Conference in Sydney.  The conference has become a tradition for our school leaders.  The day features guest speakers this year included Melissa Doyle—Sunrise, Andrew Daddo—TV presenter and Jason Stevens—Rugby League Legend.  The aim of the day is to promote leadership and inspire children to make a positive contribution to their school.

All Year 6 students are trained as Peer Support Leaders over an intensive two day program.  These students lead small groups of students from Kindergarten to Year 5 in a range of planned, supervised lessons.

Sporting Programs

Sport is a compulsory part of education in NSW. Each week students spend approximately one hour in sporting activities.  This occurs on Wednesday afternoons.

We are in the Cootamundra PSSA District.  At times throughout the year, children over the age of eight years may be involved in activities run by the PSSA.  Our students compete at District, Regional and State Level in a range of sports.

The school holds a Swimming Carnival for students 8 years and above on a Friday early in Term 1. The Athletics Carnival and the Cross Country Carnival are held later in the year.

In late Term 4 the school holds a Ten Day Intensive Swimming Program for students in Years 2, 3 and 4.

We have entered teams in PSSA State Knock-out Competitions, district competitions and Gala Days.
