The library aims to develop and encourage the love of
books and reading. To achieve this aim, the library offers many age
appropriate programs to develop the enjoyment of language, literature
appreciation, and the research in meaningful contexts.
All students have 15 minutes borrowing time each week in the library as well
as a 30 minute library session. Sessions vary according to the age level
and anticipated outcomes.
Primary students are encouraged to locate information from a variety of
sources including encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases and the internet.
This term Year 5 and 6 are studying the country of Denmark in conjunction
with a competition run by the CWA. Students will present their project after conducting extensive research on the country. To collect
information, students will spend time accessing the official Danish website as
well as search for other useful sites where they may locate the information they
need.
Year 3 and 4 are researching the 9 planets and will
locate information from encyclopedias, non fiction books and the internet.
Year 4 have entered the CAP Astro Collie competition and will attempt to locate
the planets which Astro Collie visits each week.
The infants classes continue with shared storey sessions where students are
exposed to a variety of quality authors and complete appreciation activities
including drama, art, and literacy activities.
All primary classes will finish term 2 with a media
unit focusing on the FIFA World Cup.
In Term 3 Classes will focus on Author Studies
with a quality selection of titles to discover. The library will
also be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair which is sure to create much
interest. Students can choose to dress up in their favourite
book character. |
