Our School

Mission Statement

Students will leave Murrumburrah Public School with the foundations of knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill a positive and satisfying role in a changing global community and attitudes which will prepare them for the demands of the 21st Century.

SCHOOL HOURS:

Children should arrive at school as close as possible to 9 am.
Morning assembly is at 9.15 am.
Morning Fruit Time is at 10.15am.
Recess is from 11.15 am. to 11.35 am and lunch from 1.10 pm. to 1.55 pm.

Walkers are then put across the roads by teachers. Bus travelers wait until 3.25pm for the buses to arrive.
If you wish to collect your child between 3.15 pm and 3.20 pm, please come into the grounds and inform the teacher on playground duty.
Children arriving late or leaving early - should visit the office to be signed in or out.

ATTENDANCES:

By law every absence from school must be explained with a note from a parent or guardian.  Notes have to be sent to the class teacher on the day the child returns.  All information passed from you to the teacher remains confidential.  If, for any reason, a child has to leave the grounds at any time, during school hours, a note fully stating the reason has to be received before permission can be granted.

Children who regularly have lunch at home need bring only one note at the beginning of the year.

TRANSFERRING TO  OTHER  SCHOOLS:

If parents move to another district and intend to enroll their children) at the local government school,  a Transfer Certificate should be obtained from this school before leaving.

 STAFFING

The school currently has seven full time classes, ranging from Kindergarten to Year 6.  The classes are straight, parallel and composite classes. The reason for class groupings is reflective of the number of children in each year.  Utilising composite classes enables the school to maximise student opportunity and minimise class sizes.

In addition, the staff have additional part time teachers who assist with additional English groups, music, physical education and other subjects.

During 2007 we have an Aboriginal Education Worker.  The Aboriginal Education Worker assists teachers and Aboriginal Students, in K-3 classes.

Trained staff operate specialist student support programs.

 CURRICULUM

The curriculum is organised into six Key Learning Areas -

English - Reading, writing talking and listening.
Mathematics - Number, space and measurement
Science and Technology
Creative and Practical Arts - Craft, Art, Drama and Music
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
Human Society and Its Environments.

SPORT

Sport is a compulsory part of education in NSW. Each week students spend approximately one hour in sporting activities.  This occurs on Wednesdays.

We are in the Cootamundra PSSA District.  At times throughout the year, children over the age of eight years may be involved in activities run by the PSSA.

The school holds a Swimming Carnival for students 8 years and above on a Friday early in Term 1. The Athletics Carnival and the Cross Country Carnival are held later in the year.

In late Term 4 the school holds a Ten Day Intensive Swimming Program for students in Years 2, 3 and 4.

We have entered teams in PSSA State Knock-out Competitions.

LIBRARY

The school library functions under the supervision of a Teacher/Librarian.  Children are encouraged to borrow books and use the library for their recreational and research needs.

Your child should have a library bag for borrowing books.  A bag can be easily made from half a metre of cotton material folded in half and hemmed with drawstring top.   Please encourage your child to borrow, care for and return books.

 COMPUTERS

Each room in the school is equipped with computers, which are used in conjunction with classroom programs.  The computers are PC’s and Murrumburrah Public School is gradually expanding the range of software to support the hardware.  Computers broaden our students opportunities to become familiar with technology.

The Internet is readily available and incorporated into theme and research activities. The school will be connected to a whole school network allowing students and staff to access and share files and printers from and to any location in the school.

A computer room is also set up where whole class lessons are conducted by each class each week.  All internet use by staff and students is protected by the Department’s safety firewall.

All classes have access to PC computers in their classrooms and a lab of PC Computers.  Staff  computers are linked to the internet, laser printers or the photocopier.  Students have the option to publish their work onto the school intranet.  Staff share communications via the staff intranet.

Currently Murrumburrah staff have access to 3 Interactive whiteboards located in the Computer Lab, Year 6 and Kinder classrooms.  Interactive whiteboards provide exciting, interactive, student centred learning experiences in the classrooms and allow teachers to model the use of technology to the students. Further purchases of Interactive whiteboards are anticipated as funds become available.
